Gift cards and promotional cards need paper bonded to plastic backing without warping or showing through. They go through automated assembly lines, get printed on, and need to stay flat enough to work in card readers.
The paper and plastic combination can be awkward – different expansion rates, coated surfaces, and you can’t have any lumps or bumps that’ll jam machines or confuse readers.
Application methods vary – some operations use spray adhesive for large-volume mailings, others use dot patterns for lower coverage. Removable adhesives suit cards that get peeled off carrier sheets, whilst permanent formulations work for promotional cards that stay attached to letters. Postal sorting equipment puts mechanical stress on these assemblies, so the bond needs to survive automated handling without the card shifting position or detaching completely.
