Dartboards take serious punishment. You’re driving metal points into sisal fibres and horsehair cores hundreds of times per session. The adhesive holding all that together needs to cope with repeated impact without the board falling apart or developing dead spots.
Traditional dartboard construction uses natural materials that shift and compress over time. The glue has to accommodate that movement whilst keeping everything structurally sound for competitive play.
Professional tournament boards use specific sisal grades (usually East African sisal) and require adhesives that cure without creating hard spots where darts bounce out. The circular wire spider that divides scoring segments gets embedded during construction, and adhesive flow around the wires affects dart retention. Board thickness typically ranges from 38-44mm, with adhesive needing to bond through the full depth whilst allowing the sisal to self-heal around dart holes.
